It's amazing. Very few young people can work with their hands these days. Fine, ok their lives are their own; none of my business anyway right? The electronic age has long begun and the force of imagery, instant communication,leisure-games and stalking potential "meetups" is fast, fun and the innovations never cease. There is always a new gimmick to plug into your brain.

Ok, I'm just writing as it comes to mind. Hope you don't mind. What is the natural spark that drives the craftsman? Survival.
Perhaps times have progressed too far for it to matter any longer, possibly not. I would bet my last pair of American made pliers that the first hand made, reusable object, was used[in some way] to provide food for a family (a no-brainer right?).
The second object was for a loved one, and carried a significant and remarkable quality. It was a tangible object fashioned from a simple resource, by a living imagination.It symbolized gratitude, and diginity between two or more beings.
The third, was probably another idea that alomost worked, then someone else had an isight for the next- "what to do", or what other material (that may have been a useless by-product of something else) would be just the thing.--so they got together and worked it out.
