Advice for 2g pipe test mig

I have a 2g pipe test coming up and need some advice. I have to weld the root pass with MIG and fill and cap with flux. Its an 8 inch pipe. I have a hard time going around it on one pass. Could you give me any tips.

take several dry runs with the machine off and no helmet on. you may need to be slightly in a bind when you start so that you can be more comfortable as you travel .

you are also going to need to figure out how to slide your hand along the pipe in order to make it in one run.

I use a tig finger for this..

not trying to sell you on it but it might give you some ideas.
