Don't clean your aluminum with your "dedicated brush" on a steel workbench or welding table. It will obviously pick up contamination. I see it all the time.

I made my entire table out of aluminum. It is great it gets such a good ground. I have never had an arc strike on the bottom of the pieces I weld.

I had been doing this for a little while and then ran into contamination problems through other means. That experience pretty much forced me to put a big aluminum plate on the top of my welding table which has steel underneath.
