Aluminum MIG downhill

by JTP
(Co)

When I burn downhand on 1/8" Aluminum, I get way more control/consistency by pulling the pool...My Boss gets on me saying "you should never pull an aluminum MIG" What say you?
Thanks!

Keith Fenner of Turn Wright Machine works told me that when he worked shipyards, there were internal bores that had to be built up using a spool gun and there was not choice but pulling.

He said the welds sooted up, but were cleaned before the next pass and almost always x rayed ok.

Keith is a sharp guy and has lots of marine welding experience. and you can see his youtube channel here.

Bottom line is if it works, it works.
