i have found that the arc usually blows into the center of a your mass of steel. so if you weld (stick weld or drag your mig gun) from the outermost edge into the center, your welding angle will already be battling the arc blow. for an example, welding stiffener to a flange of an I beam, start at the flange toe and weld in to the web. no arc blow i can almost guarantee.
