does purge continue all the way through process or just during root pass

Purging 80sb2 or 90sb3 has benefits. It keeps the root bead cleaner, helps cool the puddle some what, thus making the root more manageable. If you dont purge these materials on root , you will more than likely lose your puddle occasionally and the scaley , crusty oxidation from inside of the root will be scatter all over the out side of the root. This undesirable scale will follow all the way out to the capp(if GTAW fill & capp). Usually it doesnt pose a quality issue, but has a negative affects cosmetically.
