Woah, that's alot of work for a bad fix. Nothing personal, but take a minute and listen to a pipefitter. Those nipples aren't pipe, unless you made them. Many of them are R.S.W. or resistance seam welded. Some are cheaper steel, and what the hell are you welding on threads for? Get a weld-o-let on smaller pipe or 2 inch and under. On over 2 inch you need to saddle the pipe to fit the round circumference of the tank.
