You're right, tungsten electrode sharpeners aren't for everyone. Some folks like 'em because they want all the best tools in their shop. Others, like those involved with orbital welding operations (as you mentioned) or plasma arc welding, or other automated welding applications need to minimize variables and maximize consistency-- preset and angle and go!
