Dynasty -power supply

Hi there.

I am a TIG welder by trade. Looking to start a small business ,and I thought I would get a truck rigged up for some portable welding as my starting point. I love the Dynasty machines, and work with one now. I would like to out fit the truck with a dynasty, but I have been wondering about what would be the best way to supply power to it, and what kind of set up would be needed. Or is there some reason that every portable welding rig I've seen is always a bobcat, trailblazer, etc, complete unit style welder?

Thanks Robb

Idea for Dynasty -power supply NEW
by: Lyle's Welding Service

Hi, I more or less did the same thing with the mobile welding service. I found a bargain on one of the diesel powered millers. Its a WD-5. As far as i know there all 3 phase rectified for dc output. I also bought a Dynasty 200dx and figured I had the mobile welding just about licked. That was until I found out the old miller engine drive only provided 3000 watts auxillary power. So, I thought about it and figured Ive got the 3 phase AC on the generator before the rectifier or diode bridge. Since the Dynasty will accept anything up to 500 volts or so the miller tech said, I figure I can get a 3 phase transformer with a 5 to 1 ratio and tap that 3 phase ac before the diodes and with 90 volts open circuit voltage x5 would be about 450 volts. I dont have the stats in front of me but Im sure dynasty200 was less then a 10 or 11 amp draw at 450 volts. This equated to about 50 amps welding current on that big diesel engine drive witch is rated to 500 amps with 50 being the minimum. I have yet to do it but have yet to need it!?! Of course that 3 phase ac output would only be for the dynasty or similar line voltage compensating electronics. The 3 phase transformer I had a line on was only good for the dynasty 200. it wasnt powerfull enough to handle the Dynasty 350 for example. I guess theres some engineering in there but I like that stuff. Especially when it makes the Dynasty hum.

Power source
by: mike.k

i recently went through and purchased a truckload of equipment to start my own buisness. basically the bobcats and trailblazers and such are on every truck is that they are perfect for that use. i personally purchased the trailblazer 302, a 10kw machine, that has seperate gen heads in the generator, one for producing welding power, and one for producing 110v and 220v power.

of course i got stupid and purchased the miller 251-d high freq unit instead of the dynasty (i see an upgrade in my future)
but basically the generator is set up to run what tools you need for the job..
hope my input was worth the 2 cents
