What do Jessi Combs, Bryan Fuller, and Troy Trepanier have in common?
Ever heard of Bryan Fuller? How about Jessi Combs? Troy Trepanier?
What do these 3 people have in common?
They are "living the dream" building hot rods, motorcycles and rock crawlers because they learned how to weld.
Bryan Fuller who has achieved rock start status as a custom hot rod and bike builder, and Jessi Combs who has appeared on several Gearhead TV shows , both learned how to weld at Wyoming Technical Institute aka "WyoTech".
I cant believe I haven't heard about WyoTech until recently when I met a graduate. He attended the automotive technology program and chassis fabrication.
And part of that was learning to weld.
WyoTech incorporates TIG, MIG, and Gas welding into their curriculum because it is part of learning automotive and custom chassis fabrication. Not a bad idea to learn welding while learning other useful skills at the same time.
Bryan Fuller is right when he says: "If you want to build something out of metal, you have to learn to weld".
Searching for more information about WyoTech led me down a path where I found myself watching video after video of Jessi Combs, Bryan Fuller, and all kinds of videos about WyoTech students, skills training, and student projects…
All very intriguing.
I think it's pretty great that there is a school where young people who want don’t want a corporate job, can learn a trade doing something cool like fixing or building motorbikes, race cars, or watercraft.
Along the way they learn to weld and learn something about themselves too.
I am not sure how Troy Trepanier got into welding but according to Trepanier, his pipefitter grandfather had a lot to do with it. His stories about his grandfather remind me of some of the old pipefitters I worked with over the years.
Reminds me of an old saying too. "You can always tell an old pipe welder...you just cant tell him much!"
Do you have any comments about WyoTech? Been there?
Do you have any experience with WyoTech?
