length of certification

how long is a welding certification good for?

there is no simple answer.

for most aws codes,
as long as you are employed by the employer who certified you and you have complied with requirements for recording welding done within every 6 month period, you can remain qualified indefinitely....

most welding codes require an auditable record of welding in every 6 month period as an extended validity provision.

but few codes provide for transferring certifications from one employer to another.

The aws has a national program with the 6 month extended validity and a fee that has to be paid too.
