What is the proper method of welding 3g vertical up 1" plate? Should I use a weave pattern or can I use stringer beads?

you can do either with good results.

but if you are working to a certain code or procedure, you may be required to limit the width of a weave.

I personally think a narrow weave is good...like around 1/2"
