Or,instead of carrying around a file,you could just use the glove on your hand to break off the excess slag.I've never used a file to do this,and i do not have difficulty re-starting the weld.

Though cleaning end of electrode with glove may work it is not advisable if you care about the weld quality. With all the possibilities of something going wrong in a weld there is no reason to chance contaminating the electrode with your dirty glove, that is unless you're down on the farm and welding a barn door hinge or something similar.
