overhead test

HI Jody I'm about to take a test for (4GF) and I'm having trouble with my OVERHEAD .what the right rod and amperage I should used for this test.

The right rod is the rod that is specified. I have never taken a test that let me chose the rod.

Probably 7018 but you may have a choice on diameter.

sometimes 3/32" is better for a root pass if a 1/8" is too hard to fit in the gap.

here are some tips that apply for almost every overhead weld test.

set the amps hot enough that when you hold a really tight arc with very little rod angle, it wont stick.

then....hold a tight arc with very little angle.
