how to fix your problem with the stops and starts with 7018 NEW
by: Anonymous

Ok first you need to know your heat piont to where you are able to control your puddle in all applications of use with 7018 its a up hill rod. i run anywhere from 76 to 85 depending on if its position or rolled welded. To start build you a small but a even starting point. Not a dog leg hangin off. Once you are done with the first rod clean it off then as u start your next rod go bout 3/4 up from weld and what i call a J hook downward to start at your ending point, once there hang in on one side for second then back to the other little fast so your build up isnt so much. and the porosity wont be there. bend your rod at the 3/4 end of your rod for better control.Remember to go side to side holding one on oneside the to the other side as well dont move up more than 1/8 of a inch from last touch point so you will zig zag upward with a 1/8 inch in between ur side to side. hope this helps out.

Start & Stops

Start your arc 1/2-3/4 inch away from your last stop and move back to the stop, then let your puddle form. Also cleaning your stops might help.
