when i get done with a 7018 pass, right when i pull the rod up i give it a little flick. and the little ball of slag just flips right off the end of the rod. then i reach up and crunch the end of the rod. breaking off a little of the flux to expose the bare metal. then restart no problem, just like a new rod. remember to flick and crunch. no file needed.

thats my tip for the day.
