First let me say that I love American made products. The overall quality is usually much better with some exceptions (Japan & Germany). But I feel some company's like Miller & Lincoln will be pricing themselves out of the market in the long haul. If it's not China it may be Japan who will finally own the market.
These American company's need to wake up and develop a plan to compete with these newcomers. The price difference is too great now and they could be loosing many millions in the future. Competition is what's needed to level the playing field.
Right now as I see it, the main reason to own a Miller or Lincoln is the resale value but that might not be true down the road as foreign welders improve in quality and availability.
For what it's worth.......

Lincoln-Electric by: Anonymous
Lincoln-Electric's actual welders may be made in the US, but the accessories (helmet, cables, etc.) are made in China.

want or need? by: mike
American made welders may be fine and work great etc blah blah blah but "want to buy" has nothing to do with buying or not buying american or British or russian. I NEED a welder and cannot afford to buy miller or lincoln. The fact that miller etc is american has little or nothing to do with the decision. Best product for the money wins every time and ZERO shame.

American made??? by: Anonymous
I agree with you 100%, But when you "buy American", with "globelization", even when something is labled "American made" a large percentage of that item is very often made over seas.
We don't have the facilities in this country to make many of those components anymore!!!
