Yes you can use #4 shade cutting glasses with a superclear #10 gold lens with good results as well. But if you have to hang in,and look down, around,ect. Sweat will drop on the shades and then all you see is a big blurr. I've tried it too and spent more time lifting my hood, taking the shades off, wiping wiping the shades off. And at the end of the day it was hard to meet production times. Or if you get paid piece work that can get real fustrating.

You could offset the weight by wearing a dark safety glasses and a lighter lense, I have done that. Most of the time because i'm just to lazy to change the lense in my hood.
