In field and shop welding, (especially in hot weather), a welder must have adequet replacement air.Or, superior resperatory protection.
I know of one experienced "old-school" welder who often worked in close-quarters - he now has a S#!t-list of health problems attributed to years of toxic exsposure. It is not yet known whether protection was available and not used, or off-weld gasses were not considered a health risk.
