porosity in tig welding(air bubbles)
by: Anonymous

Ive had it happen to me once and only once because i went through the process of elimination. If all else fails change out your grinding disc because sometimes-especially hobby welders or away from job welders have a tendancy to use their discs for everything from cutting plexiglas to rope or whatever(I was young).Anyway we go back to our weld and bam you just embedded contamination into your metal via the grinding disc.Start tigging...voila!lotsa air holes(porosity).Keep your discs for your specific job.

test weld on scraps/coupons whenever possible
by: Anonymous

Are you welding in a damp location?

> 'local'condensation on rods and pipe infect the filler arc and the weld.

> old rods?
> unbaked rods full of H2O?
> you may need to preheat to 215 deg.F to dry the base metal.
