What does the remote wire do?

Remote wire on a welder, what happens if it's unplugged and someone starts welding?

1)if its the "voltage sensing" remote wire on a suitcase style mig pkg...the wire will sputter and jump like you have no ground and it will burn back ...fouling up the gun tip.
2)if it is the remote pendant on a stick welder
you will weld...business as usual .but at the amperage set on the console...like a default setting..
3)same for syncrowave tig.
