My boss got a 50 lb. box of 7018 by 3\16 inch.

I'm going to weld some heavy industrial cardboard shredder. What amperage should I use to work with such a large diameter stick rod?
Thank you for your time, Jack Strothers

look everyone runs 7018 at diff speeds, some like to move slow so they run cold, i like to move fast cause fast is production, anyways, when in doubt always always always grab a piece of scrap and set it in the same pos. ur trying to weld on and run a couple test beads and go from there.

Hopefully your only welding in the flat position with 3/16 and if your not, your way over your head with this size rod. In the flat position set the machine at 200 and work it up or down from there depending on the result. High bead to cold, flat bead just right, splatter all over the place, too hot. Try and get some #2 or better cable and at least a 300 amp stinger.

18's no good 16's they are hotter rod then 18's, i work with timber shredder stick with med tensile strength, too high strength it cracks to easy and lots of prep work its be worth it. 200 way too high unless its 15mm thick or more 3.2 mm rod at 105-130 flat
