Plates prep. to 3G Flux core wire Test

If I'm using .045 Flux core wire, How wide has to be my gap between the 1" plates?

with a 1/4" backing strip, 1/4" plus or minus 1/6" usually.


but if no backing is used, it will depend on bevel angle and land.

1/8" is usually a starting point.
