stop/restart with ease

When you are about to finish a bead and you have a lot of rod left, "whip" your rod while you pull it away from the metal. Basically, instead of gently removing the electrode straight out of the puddle, give it a quick flick while pulling away. You should see a good crucible, which has a gap between the end of flux, and the end of filler metal. It should come out looking like a pretty much perfect circle.
