Tig Noob Setup Questions

1. How dose the XMT 304 cc\cv compare as a tig machine, other than a coolmate dose the machine need any add-ons ( not talking about pedal and torch ).

2. Whats the thickest piece of aluminum anyone has welded with this machine.

Answer... the miller xmt 304 is a DC only lift arc machine that is will weld aluminum using mig but is not made for tig aluminum welding

3. dose a mixed gas 75% argon 25% carbon dioxide work for tig for a noob. I only ask because its what i have on hand.

Answer... no...you will not want to use that gas for tig welding ...pure argon is the way to go.

This is the machine and gas on hand i wanna pickup tig but need to figure out if i need to buy a new machine or not right now I might in a few years any input would be appreciated. I am currently taking welding classes and figured the best way to get more seat time is to use my machine when not in class. I also posted this in millers forum

Answer... the miller xmt 304 is a DC only lift arc machine that is primarily a mig welder.

lift arc tig is fine for certain jobs and can certainly be used to learn to weld...but only on steels.
