V-Groove Tests

by John Davis

When you go to do an open butt V-G, regardless of the position, I have found that its a lot easier to keep your rod angle as close to a 90 degree angle as possible.
Also, as you know I'm sure, the weld pool will be red as soon as you move the rod away from it. I noticed that if you give it a chance to cool down (which you'll know its cool and solid enough as soon as you don't see anymore red through your lens)then you bring it back down. Make sure the you move your key hole every time you move the rod further. Also, doing small circular motions help if you're doing 3-G and going uphill. Hope that helps.
