how long is certification good for?

---------------------------------------------------

Usually, welding certs are only good for the length of the job you certify for.

the reason i say that is because most employers do not typically accept your certification from a previous job even though they sometimes have the option to do so. but while you are on the same job there are provisions to keep it active indefinitely provided there is an auditable record of welding performed within certain time frames...usually just performing welds once every six months.

The AWS has a national welding certification program and it requires the welder to submit forms every 6 months to keep it valid.

there are still a lot of employers who insist on testing welders no matter what previous certs you might have.

hope this helps,

jody

D1.1 Certification NEW
by: Paul

Does the 6 month rule for welder re-certification apply to D1.1 structural welding? If so does this mean that the welder must submit to another welding test or can documented hours of activity be applied to issue a re-certification? If so can re-certification be given every 6 months as long as the welder has documented activity?
