by practicing flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, in this joint, you will be able to transition to pipe pretty well.

6010 root pass NEW
by: the legend

use a 1/8 rod nickle gap and a nickel land (width of rim)
before tacking for uphill. bury your rod and drag it ukpwards to next tack

for down hill use a 1/8 dume land and gap bury rod and drag downwards till nest tack

pretty tried, true, and failure proof methods if you have the correct heat very important

buy using a 1/8 rod you will get more penetration therefore less likeley to fail more room for error

Do your root pass with 3/32" - 6010 5p5 Lincolin rods, let if open a keyhole and it will fill in as you go. Then simply cap the rest of your coupon with 3/32" or 1/8" - 7018. Your procedure will dictate the size of filler rod to use.

always keep the electrode pointed straight to the center of the pipe as you weld.

welding pipe

I always bevel the opposing butt ends and tack the two joining pieces at all four points of the compass so that I can ensure it's straight then run a root pass with either 6013 or 6011 1/8 and then cap it
