Cold day. -25 Celsius. Mechanic started early and was packing up after welding something to a D-9. D-9 did not want to turn over. Foreman had booster cables, but other machines also didn't want to start, so no easy power source.
Mechanic twisted the used rod to get the flux off, turned the voltage on his welder to 24v, and cranked up the amps. Ground to negative booster cable, electrode to positive cable, DC positive (I think) chosen, turned on welder, and the dozer started like a charm.
