flux core and shield gas together

by Allen McCurley
(Canton Georgia)

is it ok to use a shield gas with a flux core wire?

------------------

Allen,

its ok, in fact there are several flux core wires designed to be used only with gas.

Mostly this is for bigger machines with bigger diameter wires and using high voltage and wire feed speed.

for an example, Caterpillar and other heavy equipment makers would use gas shielded flux core for thick steel to increase speed, and penetration.

If your talking about a 115 volt flux core welder, i am not sure it would do any good. but it wont hurt.
