How to remove a weld cherry

by George Wood
(Rialto, CA)

Here's the easiest way to remove a weld cherry on non-critical work. The proper way is to grind it off.

The easiest solution is to strike an arc on the cherry and pull the rod back until you get a long arc. This will be about a 3/4" - 1" arc. This will blow the cherry away. Just grind the area of the removed cherry smooth and start welding again.
