Rule of Thumb: Setting the Right Amperage

by Steve
(Missouri,USA)

An easy way to figure what to set your machine on, is every 1/32 of your rod diameter you gain 40 amps. You always have a high end and a low end. For example, a 3/32 rod will run on the low end 50 amps and High end of 80 amps. Now, lets say you want to run a 1/8 rod. Lets do the math 3/32+1/32= 4/32 or 1/8. Which means we are only going to gain 40 amps to the high and low end. 1/8 is a low end of 90 amps and a high end of 120 amps.

Easy way to figure out your amp setting.
