stick welding amperage

I took two years of welding in vocay back in 2001/2002. I really haven't welded enough since to remember all the amps with rods and now im working on my trailer fixing the tongue but can't seem to get the overhead welding to look good. I'm using a 7018 1/8" rod and a gas powered welder, all the other welds turned out great but the overhead one. Any suggestions on the amperage.
