Wire Speed Setting

by Sean
(Ga)

How do you set the right wire speed for the metal your welding? By thickness of metal or?

--------------------------------------------------
Sean,

its a function of metal thickness and position.

if you go to the web page listed above, you will get a good starting point.

for me, the wire speed listed is always a little higher than you need.

for vertical uphill welds, just use a setting for one or 2 less thickness

for example, if you are welding 3/8 thick metal but welding vertical uphill, you might use a setting for 1/4"

the miller calculator will get you in the ball park
