this guy is really fast.

For welding steel car parts like this one, use E70S2 filler rod.Some guys even use 309 stainless or a rod called "super missile weld" for stuff like this because it welds over hot rolled mill scale without porosity.If the metal is somewhat clean, E70s2 is fine. and a lot cheaper.

Tig welding is great for applications like this. Most people consider tig welding to be much slower than mig welding and too slow to be a production process.

Well think again. If you watch this video, you will know that tig welding does not have to be a slow welding process.

He pulses the foot pedal amperage control and moves the torch ahead in between pulses. His technique is a bit unconventional and is definitely geared toward "getting it done" but after I got an email from the guy with some pictures of welds from some of his other videos, Well I will let the pictures speak for themselves...

Each ripple is evenly spaced and you can see each pulse of the foot pedal.

Now for some welding tips...Its a good idea to hold the torch still over the hot weld when you terminate the arc...or at least until the tungsten cools down and is no longer glowing cherry red. This keeps the weld area where you are going to restart free from oxidation.

This guy moves the torch all over the place while the tungsten is still cherry red. I am not saying that is wrong for this application but it goes against best practice for high quality tig welds. Again, after looking at the photos, I just need to shut up and admire the work...I would definitely hire this guy for tig welding steel production work.

There are several other videos produced by this same guy and the work he gets done in a 5 minute welding video is pretty amazing. The most impressive part is the speed at which he gets the assembly and welding done. I know welders who would take at least an hour to weld what he does in 5 minutes. The guys I know would have some real pretty welds too but after looking at the photos , There is not a whole bunch of room for improvement.

And it all gets done in 5 minutes.
