1G weld certification test

I would like to know what voltage setting do I use for a 1G weld certification test on 1/4 inch plate, 1/4 to 5/16 inch gap.

I am going to assume you are testing using bare wire short arc mig

it depends on size of wire..but generally speaking 17-19 volts should get it done.

17 for root and 19 for any additional passes .
It should only require one or two passes total.
