Downhill vs. Uphill

I think you did a great job demonstrating the effects of both on 1/4" welds.
The real issue I think isn't always clear though.
I used to weld thinner metals for a popular pressure washer manufacturer and on thinner metals you get a beautiful weld going downhill. Obviously everything is based on circumstances and I just thought the readers should know you cant rule out downhill. You just need to know when to use it.

good point, downhill almost always look better and on thinner metals, penetrates just fine.

I think the cutoff is somewhere around 3/16" -1/4" thick before downhill is likely to have issues with penetration.
