Journeyman welder status

Hello, is there a such thing as a journeyman welder status? If so do you have a piece of paper, card or certificate for this? Is this status only given with a local union?

In my experience, it has only been an official thing with unions where there is an official graduation from apprentice to journeyman.

other than that , it is just reflected on you paycheck.
