What is the procedure for smaw welding a pipe with a total wall thickness of 1/8th inch of carbon steel?

there is no set procedure that is carved in stone.
it depends on the code that is used largely.

sometimes its downhill all the way, other times it could be downhill root with one cover pass that is either up or down.

api 1104 or ansi b31.1 are 2 codes commonly used

api for pipelines ad ansi for power piping.
