200 amp TIG Torch...Air Cooled

Why would anyone want a 200 amp tig torch?

Well first of all, I am talking about air cooled tig torches only.

Most tig welders around 225 amps and under come with a 150 amp #17 style air cooled tig torch.

I have had a few that came with a 26 style 200 amp tig torch, but for the most part, they come with a 150 amp torch which is also called a 17 style tig torch.

Some examples are the CK MT200, PRIMEWELD TIG225X, HTP221, LINCOLN SQUAREWAVE TIG200, and there are a whole bunch of others. I have welded with all of the above and all of them came with an air cooled 17 style tig torch.

So why wouldn’t the companies just include a 200 amp tig torch with a 200 amp welder?

I think the main reason is that most folks just prefer a smaller torch.

I know I do.

Some 200 amp air cooled torches are very big and bulky.

And the torch cable is often really stiff and seems to wrestle against you.

A smaller tig torch just feels better in your hand and is more nimble and maneuverable.

I am not saying you Can't weld at 200 amps for short periods with most 150 amp air cooled torches...you can.

But after a few minutes of welding at 200 amps, a 150 amp tig torch will get pretty hot in your hand.

And when a torch gets that hot, the collet gets hot and soft and will corkscrew and not work anymore.

So this is where the CK trim line 200 amp tig torches shine.

A CK trimline 210 air cooled torch and the trim line 26 are much smaller than most 200 amp torches but can still handle welding at 200 amps for long periods without overheating.

They feel good in your hand, and are much more nimble and maneuverable than most other air cooled tig torches that are rated for 200 amps.

The CK Super Flex cables are the key

Some tig torch cables are pretty stiff and you have to fight with them to turn the tig torch to get the angle you want.

That can be tiresome.

I remember doing a job with another popular brand 150 amp torch that had a really stiff rubber cable and I had to fight against that stiff cable in order hold a steady torch angle.

All the while, the torch was getting super hot.

I got the job done but geez!  it was really uncomfortable.

But the CK super flex cables don’t fight against you.

So pair your trim line 200 amp tig torch with super flex cables and you have got yourself a nice tig torch that won’t tire you out....and can handle 200 amp welding all day.
