Tips for carbon steel tig welding
- Aim for a tight arc length. (equal or less than tungsten electrode diameter)
- limit torch angle but torch angle can be very forgiving provided the arc length is tight enough
- keep the hot tip of the tig rod shielded with the argon coming out of the cup
- a gas lens cup upgrade like a Jazzy 10 ceramic can help a ton in not only better shielding but longer stickout

One of the keys to carbon steel tig welding is metal prep.
It is difficult to make a decent weld when there is a thick layer of mill scale.
Clean bright metal is what you want...mill scale completely removed and not just polished.
Restarts on Carbon Steel corner, lap, and tee joints

Carbon steel is usually the first metal you weld when you are first learning to Tig weld because its cheap and readily available.
But alternating beads on aluminum when you are learning to TIG weld can be a big help in shortening the learning curve
