Tungsten electrodes have an upper range amperage limit and for some reason, tungsten amperage range charts seem to be very generous on the upper limits.
For example, some charts rate a 1/16" at up to 150 amps.
personally, I think a limit of 100 amps is more accurate for a 1/16" diameter tungsten.
a 3/32" tungsten works fine up to around 200 amps.
For Tig welding thick carbon steel at over 200 amps, I recommend going to 1/8" tungsten in either 2% lanthanated, 2% thoriated, or 2% ceriated.
